Julep Maven May Box

Julep has released their May collection "Set the Stage" featuring vintage colors and art deco packaging inspired by the new Great Gatsby film.

The collection includes ten new colors, two lip color trios, a lip scrub, mascara, and hair pins. Get ready for a picture heavy post.

From left to right:

My camera had an especially hard time with this months colors; three of them appear black in the photos and I could only get one of them to show color through backlighting.

Satin Doll - Sheer poppy

Lady in Red is a matte true red with excellent color payoff
Tea for Two is a sheer nude that does not show up on my lips at all
Satin Doll is a sheer orange and my favorite of the three colors in this set

Tea for Two and Satin Doll were more like tinted lip balms than lipstick and were moisturizing while lady in red was more like a lipstick and was neither drying or moisturizing.

Sweet Lorraine - Sheer bubblegum
Lady in Red - Matte crimson

Charleston is the color I think of when I imagine the perfect french lip; that sheer wash of red that leans almost berry.  This was my favorite color from this set.
Sweet Lorraine did not show up on my lips at all even with several layers.
Lady in Red is included in both sets.

Charleston and Sweet Lorraine had more of a lip balm consistency than lipstick and were moisturizing.

Sugar Smooch Lip Scrub
Besides the gorgeous packaging this stuff smells amazing! It smells like butterscotch candies which make it a bit tough to use because you want to eat it. Luckily it tastes heavily of patroleum instead of sugar so you don't actually feel the impulse to ingest it.  It gently exfoliated my lips and left them nice and moisturized.  I just wish it was larger because this is going to get used up fast.

The black Volumizing Mascara was included in the box. I have not used it yet but I did use the brown lengthening mascara. While I like the mascara, I do not like the brushes they use. They have hard plastic brushes that poke my lids when trying to apply. Besides that they work fine.

The extra for this month was hair pins. These were not originally included in my upgrade box so I had to contact customer service who sent them out right away. These hair pins have white and coral pink plastic roses attached to bobbi pins. I think these will look adorable with a braided updo.
