Maybelline Matte Color Tattoos for Fall 2013
After searching high and low for the better part of a month, I managed to pick up all three of the new limited edition matte color tattoos that were released in early October.
Apparently, there was a big demand for more neutral colored color tattoos as well as matte versions, so Maybelline answered fans with this trio.
From what I have read online, these are meant to be used as a tinted eyeshadow base, but you could use them alone for a neutral look as well.
The matte color tattoos are limited edition and are fairly difficult to locate. I kept checking my local Bed, Bath & Beyond, CVS Drugstores, Walgreens Drugstores, and Rite Aid Drugstores for about three weeks before I luckily found an untouched display that had just been put out at CVS. Each display only has two sets of everything :-/
Maybelline has been taking advantage of micro-trend marketing and releasing very small sets that are limited edition to hype test products that are hit or miss. If these sell well, they may release more matte color tattoos in more colors. I would personally like to see a matte grey, matte pink, and matte yellow color tattoos :-)
The only display I have seen these in is called the "Gilded in Gold Collection" for Holiday 2013 which also includes three shimmer blushes in pink, plum, and beige, two vivid lipsticks in pink and red, two full-coverage glitter nail polishes in silver and red (I will be reviewing the Brocade Collection soon), and a black eyeliner. Almost everything in the display is limited edition, but I am not sure if the eyeliner is limited edition (I am fairly certain it was a re-promote or part of the permanent line.)

From the packaging, I was expecting Nude Pink to be a matte version of the metallic color tattoo Inked in Pink, but it is lighter and more mauve colored. Just Beige is also not a matte dupe for Barely Branded which has more of a gold undertone while Just Beige has a very yellow undertone. There is no other brown color tattoo which makes Matte Brown the most unique in this collection.
These matte color tattoos are easy to apply and build up in intensity through layering. I have read online that some people feel that they are not as thick or opaque as the original color tattoos and require more layering. I think that because they are flesh toned they require more layering to show up on the skin; I do feel they have a thinner consistency than the originals, but I am not bothered by this because it makes them easier to layer whereas with the originals did not layer consistently and some would streak or flake off.
Overall, I like these and will be getting good use out of them and I hope that Maybelline decides to make more.
