Julep Hooray for May Mystery Box

Julep's mystery box for May 2013 could include one of two new mystery colors and an extra gift for a friend.

I purchased two mystery boxes at the same time as an experiment to see if I would get two different mystery boxes or two of the same mystery box. Luckily I did receive two different mystery boxes, but they both had the same mystery color. At the start of the year Julep raised the price on their mystery boxes from $19.99 to $24.99 so this turned out to be an unnecessarily expensive experiment.

The regular mystery box includes five assorted polishes from Julep's past collections, one of which comes in a little gift bag with a tag for a friend, and one of the two mystery colors. An unusually sparse mystery box from Julep; This is the first one, that I can recall, in over a year to not have any products included. A few mavens received larger mystery boxes with more polishes AND products which could be gold boxes? not sure if they are even doing that anymore. The gold boxes are/were secret upgrades that were sent out randomly to a hand-full of mavens.

The two new mystery colors released for this box are:
Charlie - Bombshell: a bright yellow
Korin: a bright green

I received mystery box versions 2 & 5; not sure which is which because they both came in a larger box with my Sea Salt Collection purchase and only one invoice.

The second box included from left to right: Jordan, Teresa, Fiona, Nina, Charlie, and the extra was Clara.

Since I have 200 plus Julep polishes these were all dupes for me except for Charlie. I ended up swapping my extra Charlie for Korin in the Julep Swap Group on Facebook which is a really good place to get rid of dupes or find rare polishes. They group is not limited to only Julep polishes as many people have all sorts of stuff to swap or sell. I have seen several discontinued Julep polishes there including some unicorns so check it out if you can. You have to be approved before being added to the group here.

So I have figured out that Julep usually releases 7 versions of their mystery boxes.  So if there are 2 mystery polishes and 7 versions, that means you would have to buy 4 boxes to guarantee both colors and that's if you do not receive duplicate boxes.  Some people buy all 7 boxes each time which I think is nuts because you can usually buy or swap for the mystery colors later in the swap groups or on eBay.  The only reason I still purchase the mystery boxes is for the mystery colors/prizes because they are usually limited releases that are not sold in the regular Julep shop.
