Memorial Weekend Getaway

Today marks the kick-off to the summer season as many head out of town for a mini-vacay. Here's my guide for fun in the sun this weekend.

Ah, the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, corn on the cob and potato salad...all staples of an outing with the fam. Every year for memorial day weekend my family heads out of town to my grandmother's because it's also her birthday weekend.

If you are headed to the beach this weekend or lounging poolside, you will need a cute bathing suit and towel, your sunnies with 100% UVA/UVB protection, a headband to keep sticky wet hair out of your face, and a wide brimmed hat for extra sun protection. You should also bring a cover up for peak sun exposure hours, 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., and for evening when the wind picks up.

You'll want to bring a bag packed with sun protection of at least SPF 30, a moisturizing after sun lotion, a lip product with at least SPF 15, and a good book. Be sure to reapply sun protection every couple of hours, or every 80 minutes if you are going in the water. Even if you don't make it to the water this weekend you should still use sun protection and a cute pair of shorts and sandals don't hurt either.

My picks for a memorial day mani-pedi include Julep's red, white, and blue polishes in "Jackie", "Eileen", and "Taylor". Add a little sparkle with Julep's "America" which has red, silver, and blue glitter in a clear base.
