Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

tresemme freshstart dry shampoo for fine oily hair sample size review
This dry shampoo has won awards from the likes of Allure magazine and others. After reading an article in Women's Health Magazine about using this to freshen up hair after the gym, I set out to find it at my local Target only to find a sample size which was perfect at the time.

I like sample sizes because they are perfect for travel and this sample size fit perfectly into my workout bag.

Tresemme has a few different types of dry shampoo designed for different hair types and needs. I purchased a 2 oz. sample of the Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo for fine/oily hair.

Product description from website: "Now there’s no need to miss a fresh look and feel, even when you skip a traditional shampoo. This dry shampoo is infused with Mineral Clay and Citrus and leaves no visible residue."

"THE FORMULATION: This Dry Shampoo, with Mineral Clay and Citrus, revives your fine, limp hair by removing excess oil and impurities and helping eliminate odor, leaving hair rejuvenated."

"THE EFFECT: Just a quick spray at the roots and this weightless, fine mist will revitalize and refresh your hair without any visible residue for hair that is full of movement."

Ingredients: Hydrofluorocarbon 152A, Alcohol Denat, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Benzyl Alcohol, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate, Fragrance (Parfum), Silica Dimethyl Silylate, PVP, Kaolin, Linalool, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Amyl Cinnamal, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Geraniol, Glycerin, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Extract.

Warnings: This product is flammable

This product did dry up excess oil and added some volume to my hair.  However, the mist is not fine and refreshing, it is thick and sticky.  It left a sticky film in my hair that after about an hour weighed down my hair and left it looking unclean.  The spray is invisible so there is no white residue.  The smell is horrible and very strong; It reminds me of old-school hair spray.  Worst of all the scent lingers for a long time.

Overall, I am not pleased with this product and it will be given away or tossed out.

The full size can is 5.7 oz. and retails for about $5.79.

  1. Have you found any dry shampoos that you've liked or tried making your own? I've seen some DIYs online for dry shampoos, but the one I tried smelled too much like the main ingredient (alcohol) for me to want to spray it at my head. :-\

    1. I am going to assume you mean rubbing alcohol which you should not use on your hair because it's really drying. I have not tried to make my own, I will have to check that out, but I do like the Gently Dry Shampoo with Oatmilk by Kloraine (both the spray and the powder shaker) http://www.kloraneusa.com/DryShampoo.htm
