Bikini Shaver

So the next product in my hair removal series (wait it's a series now?), is the Bikini Razor. Now that it's bikini season you might want a way to make sure any wayward hairs don't make a beachside debut.

Now, if you have ever shaved that area you know that it can be unpleasant unless done correctly. You should not use a normal razor because it will shave the hair flush with the skin. This is a problem because when you shave you not only get rid of the hair above the skin but you also exfoliate the top layer of skin which causes skin to swell a little from the friction. When the skin around the hair follicle swells it kind of shuts the hair follicle so that new hair growth will have to break through the skin, thus reopening the hair follicle. This is why it itches when your hair starts to grow back because the swollen skin gets irritated by the hairs pushing up and out causing inflammation.  It's so important to use a soothing moisturizer after you shave because it helps reduce this inflammation. That being said, you don't want to experience itchy red skin on your groin area so you need a razor that will shave hairs at an angle. This is why they created the bikini razor.

This particular bikini razor is a manual one. They make motorized ones as well and I have one that I might do a review on later. You can see from the photo that it's smaller than a regular razor in order to get into those hard to reach places. Also, the razor head is pointed down because it cuts hair at an angle so that it does not grow back as described above. You want to make sure and shave in the direction of hair growth.

The downside is that you will still see dark hairs above the skin, they are just shorter now so they don't poke out of your bottoms. Because this razor does not completely remove the hairs this might not be the best type of razor for people who have hair growth outside of the area covered by your bottoms. In that case you might want to try sugaring or waxing.
