Julep Maven August Box Opening
Can you believe it? Julep Maven is two years old.
To celebrate the second anniversary of Julep Maven, the August box was a flowery hot pink instead of the normal black.

Julep has decided to cut down on the paper inserts by discontinuing the style cards: You know, the post card that tell you what outfits and accessories go with your style profile colors (I'm Boho Glam.) However, we still have the quote cards for now because so many people said they like them on Facebook. I applaud Julep for being more environmentally responsible. You can still find the information from the style cards on Julep's blog.
This months little extra is Forget-Me-Not seeds. It's late for planting seeds so I will save them for next year. While I am grateful for any freebies, I honestly expected something a little bit more special for Julep's two year anniversary.
The first of two products for August is the Doublestep Foot Treatment & Friction Stick. It creates a barrier between your feet and shoes to reduce friction which causes blisters. It also uses Shea butter, vitamin E, and chili pepper oil to moisturize and stimulate circulation in your feet.
When I first heard about this product I was a bit concerned that this would be too similar to my Band Aid Brand Friction Stick. Well, I am happy to report that it is quite different. First, the Doublestep is larger at .49 oz. versus the Friction Stick which is .39 oz. The packaging makes the Doublestep seem much larger but it's not that much larger. The Doublestep is more moisturizing; It's kind of like chapstick for your feet and similar to the Julep Hand and Cuticle Stick.
I have only used this to moisturize my feet so far and it does a good job of keeping my dry heels soft. I do not feel any burning or tingling from the chili pepper oil, but I also do not feel it from the Julep Instant Warming Foot Scrub which also contains chili pepper oil. Some people were very concerned about using this product and then touching their face and getting it in their eyes. Well, the only thing I have to say to that is: "Why are you touching your feet and then touching your face without washing your hands first? Yuck!"
The second product for August is the Moisture Mask Trio.
The box slides open like this and you can remove the masks. It's kind of like a book of masks.
There are three different masks: one each for hands, nails, and feet. These are similar to a Korean cosmetic that I picked up at Forever 21 recently. For the hands, there are two sheets the fit over the hands and you leave them on for 20-30 minutes and then rub in the extra serum. Same for the nails and feet except there are ten for your fingernails.
The add-on for August was this anniversary Champagne Trio which includes:

- Clio (celebration) - Bombshell: "silver, pink, and lavender multi-dimensional glitter"
- Reiko (gratitude) - It Girl: "rose metallic gold"

You need to be careful when applying the metallics because they leave visible brush strokes. All you can really do about this is to make sure your brush strokes are straight and even. The colors are gorgeous and I think that they are thin enough for layering; I will have to experiment with this. The glitter topper color is divine and I'm sure you can build it up to full opacity in about four or five coats.

All the colors applied beautifully without any problems, except for Nellie but that's another issue entirely. Nellie came with a broken cap and had leaked into the outer cap, so when I pulled it off it began leaking down the bottle. Because of the cracked lid air had gotten into the bottle drying out the polish so that it was thick and gloopy. This is the first and only time this has happened with Julep, but their customer service is very good so I'm sure I can get a replacement.
