The first product featured this month is Julep's Mask Noir which is a black peel off mask.  This mask lifts away impurities and is "enhanced with Julep's proprietary Power Cell Complex" which is an "age-defying blend of rosehip seed oil, Malvaceae Lipid Extract, and green coffee bean oil."  It is supposed to leave skin "smoother, brighter, and deeply hydrated."  The tube is hermetically sealed which makes it more hygienic.

No, I am not trying to recreate black face here, this is what the mask looks like on the face.  It literally felt like I was applying tar to my face because the consistency is very thick and sticky.  It was difficult to apply because it wanted to stick to my fingers as I was applying it onto my face and it was drying so fast that as I was applying bits of it were peeling off which accounts for the patchy parts on my face.  I tried to layer over the patches as best I could.  

Because this is a peel off mask you want to avoid getting it on hair and eyebrows because it can be difficult to remove.  This mask was very messy and stuck to my hands, the tube, the sink and was difficult to rinse off;  There were globs of it stuck under my fingernails somehow.  

You leave it on for 15-20 minutes before peeling it off from chin to forehead.  It was fun to peel off and it came off in one piece which surprised me because it was so patchy.  After rinsing my face, I noticed it looked clearer and smoother.  I would not say this mask is deeply hydrating but my face did not feel tight after using it.

The second product in this month's box is the Kajal Eye Glider which is a double-sided eye liner with a black side and a shimmery brown side.  This liner is supposed to be "intensely pigmented" and "glide on smoothly and blend like a dream."  The pencil is opthamologist-tested and "won't drag or pull on delicate skin."  It also comes with a sharpener.

The sharper has two plastic lids, one to keep stuff out of the sharpener that does not belong there like dust, and the second is to catch the shavings from the top.  You can pop off the bottom lid to and use the scraper clipped into the side to clean the blade.  You can see the little scraper tab on the side of the image on the left;  You just pull it out to use it.

After using the product I would not say that the colors are intensely pigmented.  They give a nice natural look that is perfect for everyday wear.  They are not sharp and glide on easily.

As we get older our eyelashes thin out and the skin around the eyes starts to droop with age.  To combat this, it is important to define the lash line.  

To define the upper lash line, when applying dot the pencil in between the eyelashes to add fullness and then connect the dots in a thin line, winging it up and out a tad at the outer corners.  You don't want to follow your natural lash line because, as you can see, it slopes down at the outer corner and if you follow that line you are accentuating droopiness making you look tired..  You want to draw the eye up to make yourself look more awake.

To define the lower lash line use a shimmery brown shade because it is less harsh looking than black which can draw more attention to dark circles.  The shimmer in the brown draws light to the area helping to combat the dark circles.  Smudge the line with your finger or a cotton swab to soften and make it look more natural.
