Silly Bee's Chickadees Dia de Los Muertos Duo

To celebrate Dia de los Muertos, Silly Bee's Chickadees has created a beautiful nail polish duo.

Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead starts today and is a holiday dedicated to remembering and celebrating the deceased.  It starts October 31 and goes until November 2.

It is so strange how life works sometimes. I opened up this kit late last night after my grandfather passed away from cancer. I could not sleep after that and this kit brought me some comfort in that it reminded me that we must remember the good times we had and the love that we shared.  When I look down at my nails they make me smile when I remember him.

BTW: The box came with those cute stamp decorations on the front but I added the washi tape that Silly Bee's Chickadees owner Melissa lovingly wrapped around each polish.

Melissa added a lovely packet of fun extras to go with this duo.  Everything was so thoughtfully put together and beautifully wrapped.

Inside the goodie bag was a packet of marigold seeds, a cookie, some water decals, a cute skull bracelet, and a skull card you can decorate made by Melissa from a hand-carved stamp she made (I am working on decorating it and will post a picture when I am done.)

Melly's Marigolds is a yellow glitter-crelly that looks like it has a semi-matte finish when dry.  It applied beautifully and dried fast without smudges or bubbles.  Marigolds are the "flor de muerto" and an important part of Dia de los Muertos as they are used as decorations in altars or shrines for the deceased.  These flowers are thought to attract the souls of the dead with their bright happy color.

Here is a closer look at Melly's Marigolds.  This is two coats over CND Sticky Base.

Calavera Queen is a multi-glitter topcoat in a clear "Azucar" base.  It includes "matte purple, yellow, red and black hexes, red matte hearts, pink matte squares, orange metallic glitters plus silver holo shreds in a frosty, clear base of satin white micro glitter."  This polish is best applied with a dabbing motion and then spread over the nail to distribute the glitters.  It is so very pretty over Melly's Marigolds and I have gotten lots of compliments already.  Calavera refers to artistic representations of skulls and many things associated with Dia de los Muertos including the Catrina figures and sugar skulls.
