Julep Long Weekend Eyeshadow Palette [Review & Swatches]

Julep's latest eyeshadow palette released this month after debuting in the Secret Store.  The packaging is a bit deceptive making one think that this palette includes pastels.  However, the Long Weekend palette features soft neutrals for easy off-duty looks.

This is a limited edition palette that is currently on sale as an add-on for the June Julep Maven Box.  I have not had much time to play with this palette as I received it just last week while I was ill, but I wanted to get this review out there as soon as possible before the selection window closes on May 24.

So, what is in it?

This palette contains 11 eyeshadows and a double-sided brush featuring a side for applying and a side for blending the eyeshadows.  The inner packaging and brush are a beautiful bronze color.

Friday is a light ivory-beige

Getaway is a very light brown

Sunset is a light brownish-gold

Saturday is a light taupe

Low Tide is a light bronze

Bonfire is a red-brown bronze

Sunday is a grey based taupe

Brunch is a light pinky brown

Catnap is a purple based taupe

Monday is a medium brown

Bask is a dark brown

All shades are swatched on bare skin. Some apply more easily than others; the darker shades seem to go on a bit patchy at first but even out with some blending. Most shades are creamy if only slightly powdery with the exception of Friday which seems a bit drier than the others. I find it easiest to apply them in a patting motion for coverage and then gently sweeping them across the lid to even it out.

I have included a comparison between the Julep Long Weekend Eyeshadow Palette (top) and the Julep Sweep The Photogenic Palette (bottom.)  The Photogenic Palette contains darker colors for more dramatic looks while the Long Weekend Palette contains neutral colors for everyday looks.  As you can see both palettes contain 11 eyeshadows, but The Photogenic Palette contains 0.05 oz. of product for each eyeshadow while the Long Weekend Palette contains 0.03 oz. of product for each eyeshadow for the same price of $54.  Because there is less product in the Long Weekend Palette it is not as good of a deal as the Photogenic Palette.

I have also included for comparison the Urban Decay Naked palette as it is similar in size and price.  The Julep Long Weekend palette includes 11 eyeshadows at 0.03 oz. each for $54.  The Urban Decay Naked palette includes 12 eyeshadows at 0.05 oz. each for the same price making it a better deal as you are getting more product for the same amount of money.

Pros: versatile neutrals for a multitude of looks, apply and blend easy

Cons: a bit pricey, some shades are powdery

Final Opinion:  I really like this palette as I wear mostly neutral or no makeup looks so I feel like I will get a lot of use out of this palette.  The colors are creamy and blendable making application easy.  The variety of neutrals makes this a good palette to mix with other eyeshadows in your collection or good enough to use on its own.  It is portable, but there is not clasp so I would worry about it opening up and breaking, so maybe put a rubber band on it for travel.  I personally would not (and did not) buy the Long Weekend palette at full price, so if you are interested you had best take advantage of the sale price of $19 while it lasts.  You always can change your Julep Maven selections and add-ons up until May 24 and if you have saved up your Jules points you might even be able to get the palette for free because you can apply them to add-ons.
